Background

William H. Pryor Jr. has served as chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit since June 3, 2020. Appointed by President George W. Bush, he joined the court in 2004 and was confirmed 53-45. Pryor previously served as attorney general of Alabama and as a commissioner of the U.S. Sentencing Commission. He is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University and Tulane University Law School.
