Background

Samuel A. Alito Jr. has served as an Associate Justice since January 2006. He previously served for 15 years as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and before that as U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey and a Deputy Assistant Attorney General. He is a graduate of Princeton University and Yale Law School, and is generally regarded as one of the Court's most consistent conservatives.
