Background

Michael B. Brennan has served as chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit since October 1, 2025. Nominated by President Donald Trump, he was confirmed to the court in May 2018 by a 49-46 vote. Brennan previously served eight years as a judge on the Milwaukee County Circuit Court and was a partner at the Milwaukee firm Gass Weber Mullins. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Northwestern University School of Law.
