Background
John G. Roberts Jr. has served as the 17th Chief Justice of the United States since September 2005. Before joining the Court, he served as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, as Principal Deputy Solicitor General, and as Associate Counsel to President Ronald Reagan. In private practice he argued 39 cases before the Supreme Court, and he is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School.
