Background

Jennifer Walker Elrod has served as chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit since October 4, 2024. Appointed by President George W. Bush, she joined the court in 2007 after serving as a judge on the 190th Texas District Court in Harris County. Elrod has authored notable rulings including Jarkesy v. SEC, which the Supreme Court affirmed in 2024. She is a graduate of Baylor University and Harvard Law School.
