Background
Elena Kagan has served as an Associate Justice since August 2010. She was the first woman to serve as Solicitor General of the United States (2009-2010) and previously served as dean of Harvard Law School from 2003 to 2009. Earlier in her career she clerked for Justice Thurgood Marshall and served in the Clinton White House. She is a graduate of Princeton University, earned an M.Phil. from Oxford University, and received her law degree from Harvard Law School.
