Background

Brett M. Kavanaugh has served as an Associate Justice since October 2018. He previously served for 12 years as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and before that served as White House Staff Secretary and Associate Counsel to President George W. Bush and as an associate counsel in the Office of Independent Counsel. He is a graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School, and clerked for Justice Anthony Kennedy.
