William Owen Scharf has served as White House Counsel since September 1, 2026, succeeding David Warrington, who returned to private practice. He previously served as White House Staff Secretary from January 2025 to September 2026 and as an assistant U.S. attorney prosecuting violent crimes in the Eastern District of Missouri. Scharf, a Princeton and Harvard Law graduate, also served as one of Donald Trump's personal lawyers and ran unsuccessfully in the 2024 Missouri attorney general Republican primary.
